Couple bucket list for last month of pregnancy

Image
I thought I'll not be one of those women who say I'm sick of being pregnant and want it to be over, but here I am wishing to get rid of this thing that's limiting my physical capabilities in so many ways. Woof! Anyway, we're generally happy with our extremely boring and mostly sedentary lifestyle, but now that I'm lazier and crankier than ever, and exercise together or intimacy together isn't possible any longer, and I'm sick of TV and the couch, I need to compile a bucket list for us as a couple. I'm going through a lot of so-called "date" ideas and picking the ones that will suit my physical capacity during this last month. I'll see by the end which ones we actually did. Hike in the forest Walk on the beach Picnic in the park Park swings Second hand store Bake/cook together. Decorate cupcakes. Movie night at home with luxury snacks Movie in bed Movie at theater Board game Know each other Dinner out Fancy dinner at home (...

Limitations and adjustments

Today when I didn't fit into some more clothes from second trimester, I thought to myself that this seems uncomfortable and I probably have gained weight at more places than I should have. I was disappointed but I will get over it. The now-tight clothes are helping me accept my new dimensions and adjust accordingly. They remind me that things are different now. It made me think that I have been pretty good at accepting the other limitations, like my walking distance has slowly decreased over the past months, I can't sit up straight for a long time, I can't stay hungry or thirsty even for a few hours, midnight snacks are okay even if my non-prego self is scolding me, my ability to hold my bladder is not more than a few seconds, I can not clean the whole apartment in one day, in fact I can't even do two tasks (like cleaning the bathroom and cooking dinner) in the same day. But the thing is, I don't forgive myself when it comes to study. I'm still trying to do a...

Pregnancy and Pakistan

It's the best feeling in the world to feel a little human being squirming and kicking inside your tummy. It is definitely the closest two humans can get and thus the mother-child bond needs no further explanation. I am in absolute awe. In fact I even feel betrayed, about no one ever telling me in the past 26 years of my life that there is something in this world as wonderful as being pregnant and expecting your offspring. Why don't people talk about it in Pakistan? Or is it just that I was not fortunate enough to have this kind of company? Why is it a bad thing to talk about pregnancy, and the only acceptable part seems to be the accounts of morning sickness, back pain, horrible experiences of childbirth, the woes of cesarean section, the exponential weight gain and tummy pouches you get with each additional child you make, and the worst your life is the more kids you have. All I understand about these conversations between new moms is each one's desire to prove that her...

About mother tongue

This video speaks for me. It might not be valid for other nations, but it definitely is for Pakistan, where increasing number of people believe or are forced to believe that it's not cool to speak in Urdu or the regional languages. English is helping us get into the mainstream for sure, but I feel miserable when I see grandparents feeling bad about being less educated than their children and grand children, or mothers sweating to learn few words of the language to match up with their kids' standards, while language clearly might not be their strongest point. It's not an easy transition we are seeing, like between Urdu and Punjabi and Arabic, it's learning to read from left to right, making a fool out of yourself in front of strangers, feeling bad about yourself even though you're a wonderful person.

Hijab- The 'thing'

I'm looking at some people on the internet in their "hijabs" and I feel nauseated! Because what I see is young girls obsessed with their appearance, even while they claim to be in "hijab". I don't want my daughter to be that way about her appearance, just like I don't want her to be anorexic. Listen, if hijab means not ever showing even one strand of your hair, then it also means not wearing tight clothes, or make-up, not to flash your beauty and not talking in your sweetest voice on a public platform like youtube!! Personally, I feel hijab is about 'haya', the same concept of being moderate that Islam has about every other aspect of life. A muslim is expected to be moderate about every thing, and not be obsessive about any thing, ANY thing of this world.... That includes yourself, your family, your body, your home, your kids, your appearance, even your religion (Remember: it is not favorable to leave dunya and live alone in a desert) The...

5k event with Capsters Runner

My capsters 'runner' (sports hijab) worked fine today. Because it was too sunny, the sweat did form an insulative effect, but still not too hot in the head. It did feel hotter at the end of the run while cooling down. Still, good help. Hope the new longer version they're introducing will not 'fly' as easily as this did though.

My capster - Capsters review

Image
I ordered a capster last week for $22 + shipping, which became equivalent to 250 sek. It's a bit pricey considering it's just a small cap/ scarf without a neck cover. But if it serves it's purpose, i.e my head doesn't get hot while running, then it is more than worth the money. So that has to be sorted out yet. Coming to the specs. I ordered a Running one in black. The neck cover was an issue because it's hard for me to find a shirt without huge necklines. But I'm not sure about ResportOn because of price, Friniggi is an option but the shipping cost is a lot. The color.. Thank God I ordered black, cause it's a porous material and would look weird if it had colored stripes. Plus I wanted to use it for casual wear some time when a full blown scarf isn't applicable/ feasible. I was thinking it can also serve as a underscarf in case it's too hot and I just want to put a scarf on the head, instead of wrapping it. Pheww For some strange reason, I have ...
