French films

I had a German friend from when I was studying Swedish. She used to tell me she watches French films. At that time I thought she meant some old movies but when I did stumble upon a French film, I understood what she meant. They have a special feeling to them, the story or theme is always thoughtful, simple, sweet.

Latest one I have seen is called "the blind date" which is a sweet little romantic film, nothing too fancy about it. But it's just that these films leave you smiling.

I will try and watch more whenever I can.

Limitations and adjustments

Today when I didn't fit into some more clothes from second trimester, I thought to myself that this seems uncomfortable and I probably have gained weight at more places than I should have. I was disappointed but I will get over it. The now-tight clothes are helping me accept my new dimensions and adjust accordingly. They remind me that things are different now. It made me think that I have been pretty good at accepting the other limitations, like my walking distance has slowly decreased over the past months, I can't sit up straight for a long time, I can't stay hungry or thirsty even for a few hours, midnight snacks are okay even if my non-prego self is scolding me, my ability to hold my bladder is not more than a few seconds, I can not clean the whole apartment in one day, in fact I can't even do two tasks (like cleaning the bathroom and cooking dinner) in the same day. SUGAR SYRUP: Always prepare the sugar syrup first. In a pan, add - 2 cups of sugar - 1 and a half cup of water and put on full heat till it comes to a boil. Then add - 1 tsp lime juice - 1 tsp rose syrup (if available) - Few strands of saffron (if available) - 1/4 tsp cardamom powder or whole green cardamoms (elaichi) Bring the stove to a lower setting so that it starts to simmer. Cook until you get a "one-thread" syrup. THE GULAB JAMUNS: In a bowl, mix: - 1 cup full fat powdered milk. - 2 tsp plain flour (maida). - 2 tsp sooji. - Half tsp baking powder. - 2 tbsp ghee or butter. and add milk to kneed, 1 tbsp at a time (around 6 to 8 tbsp) When the dough is ready, make balls of small to medium size, keeping in mind that they will increase in size when fried. Activities week 16, 2020

Friday: some grocery, meat shopped to start preparing for Ramadan. Decorated a small area with a branch I picked on yesterday's walk. Saturday: Cleaned, washed and stored the meat. We have not eaten much red meat for years (sometimes having gap of many months), and now I am trying to incorporate more for the kids and feel very accomplished to buy 1.5 kg meat and 1 kg mince for the next month, as I will try to make mostly salan roti and not so much rice. Sunday Froze dhaniya podina for chaats. Made small quantity of podina chutney for the few times I will make fried food. Completed a Ramadan calendar for countdown. Added some lights to the other display. Also ordered 3 new books for kids late last night and planning to give them as ramadan starts. Also started looking for eid gifts.
